Great new book on the market
‘This is a great new book aimed at nursing and healthcare students. I particularly like the way the book begins with histology. I also like that the book has a brief contents page then a detailed contents page. Some textbooks can be uninteresting and unappealing, however, I feel this book has a good balance. Something else I liked is the content depth of this book. Some books can be too sparse or too in-depth but this is definitely spot on.' Amazon reviewer

A must-buy for all nursing and healthcare students
‘This is a modern textbook that introduces topics in a way that is easy to digest. Not only does it provide information that will help with your first A&P exam, but it also brings in the practical element of nursing and healthcare too. I especially love the supplementary chapters available online, which cover an array of topics saving the need to purchase several different books.

‘The book is sincerely brilliant and exceeded my expectations. It is a wonderful addition to my nursing book library, one that I will definitely be referring to regularly... The tone is just right coming from a student point of view. It isn’t too complicated but delivers the content perfectly. It has a balanced, explanatory tone that I think is appropriate for all stages of the degree.’
Of the content: ‘This book allows you to go into as much depth as you want to. You have a choice to explore further because of the added boxes at the sides and the added online content.’
Of the illustrations: ‘The images and text are consistently approached in a logical way and given the space they need. They are a good size, colourful, easy to understand and well labelled to refer back to text and follow too. It can be so difficult to try and visualise certain aspects of anatomy and physiology. The authors have captured these brilliantly.’
Of the boxes in the margin: ‘I think this is a brilliant feature. Especially expansion for common terms or abbreviations, I think this is a really useful way of incorporating it altogether, for example in the respiratory section box 6.14 mentions “RR or ‘Resps’”. I haven’t come across another book that has done that in this way before.’
Of the online self-assessment questions: ‘Personally, I really like to be able to test by knowledge this way and I think that these sort of MCQ’s would have been really useful for when I did my A&P exam in my first year. I know other courses have A&P exams so I can see this free feature being really valuable to students. The critical thinking option is brilliant for further learning too. I can see how this could be really useful for classroom work and discussion.’

‘The contents page is divided into a simple contents and more detailed contents, which makes navigating the book easy and feel less overwhelming... and I especially like the ‘how to learn anatomy and physiology’ section.
There are clear and simple illustrations throughout the book that don’t overwhelm the reader. Often diagrams can be used too often but I think the balance is just right in this book. I also found the blue boxes in the margins helpful, as they added information that was ‘good to know’.
I absolutely love the supplementary chapters online. It saves the need to purchase several different books which can be confusing. This ties everything together nicely. The format of the online pages is also accessible, with plenty of white space and good use of diagrams. I feel like my 3rd year will be made a little simpler with access to these chapters. The online self-assessments are very useful too.’

‘I feel this is an essential book for anyone studying nursing or healthcare.
I think it exceeds the more complicated textbooks as it is much easier to read but doesn’t compromise on content or information... in fact the content is above and beyond some of the other textbooks without all the jargon.
The book covers everything for a A and P module on any nursing and healthcare course... I really like the extra content too especially the ‘Principles of drug actions’.
The boxes are a stand-out feature and are really useful especially if you want additional information or to understand more about a subject. The information is relevant and up to date.
[The self-assessment questions] are so useful as these are the format used in the A and P module exam and I like the additional methods of assessment too as always useful for a chance to consolidate learning and understanding. Really useful content and many other A and P books do not have this facility of assessing knowledge and understanding.

‘The logical structure makes for ease of reading and enables the reader to get a good depth and understanding of the content... there is a good balance between authoritativeness and accessibility and this reinforces the principles and expectations demonstrated by my University provider too. One of the more ‘easy reading’ and less ‘full on’ academic texts surrounding A&P I have read.
Some of the clearest diagrams I have witnessed in academic literature... extremely effective in supporting otherwise tricky to visualise concepts.

‘I believe this book is one of the best Anatomy and Physiology books I have read. Having been in the medical field for a number of years I have read a fair few and I would recommend this above some of the regular ones recommended.
The combination of real medical images as well as illustrations is brilliant and puts everything into perspective. I am a very visual learner and this makes everything make sense. The illustrations are very clear and easy to examine.
[The online self-assessment questions] are so useful. I like to test my knowledge and I think for some students this asserts their knowledge base and allows them to realise what they have managed to learn.
I would thoroughly recommend this book to colleagues and fellow students. One of the most common errors in medical textbooks is that the authors assume a certain level of knowledge and if you do not meet that level the words just all merge and you don’t learn much other than confusing yourself more. This book, however, sets a level for all levels of learning and you take from it what you want.

An essential!
‘I'm a second year (adult) student nurse and I've found this book so useful for my studies! Compared to other anatomy and physiology textbooks especially, this book is so easy to read in that it explains processes in a way that make sense and makes the content less 'dry' and easier to understand. The detailed colourful diagrams also really help to make the information sink in.
