– This is the first book in the series "Lives of the Mayfair witches". It's a series of three books. The book is contemporary, and most of it takes place at the corner of First street and chestnut, in New Orleans, in the family house. We meet Michael Curry, a very successful contractor who currently lives in San Fransisco, California, but spent his childhood in New Orleans. We also meet Rowan Mayfair, a very successful neurosurgeon who also lives in San Fransisco. Last, but not least, we get to know a gentleman from The Talamasca, named Aaron Lightner. Aaron has a written a narrative on the Mayfair Family that goes way back to the 1600's, describing how Deborah of Maye Fair came in possession of the famous Mayfair emerald, and of the evil spirit Lasher and his involvement in the family. I have to say the book ends rather tragically, but it leaves a thread of hope. The story, or plot if you will, was very realistic, full of surprises, but yet we all know some of the things executed are impossible. This is the best book I've ever read. I strongly reccomend it.
