– It was quite a surprise to me that I found this Hercule Poirot novel that I hadn't already read! I certainly have recently read better thrillers than this one and if I'm honest I would also say I don't think this is one of this author's better pieces of fiction. I enjoyed it still, as I found it a relaxing and uncomplicated read, I think this book would be an ideal read for a holiday! The writing is classic and old fashioned, true to Christie's style, and the plot is at times very intricate, yet also not of the most original. What bothers me most about this book, is that the main character, Hercule Poirot, arrives too late in the plot of the story, leaving the reader unsatisfied and rather irritated. The plot itself is rather long and complex, so let me just say it deals with diamonds and large sums of money, princes and hustlers, in conclusion all characters that Agatha Christie is known for using! Not her best work, but still a rather good read!
