– The first part of the amazing vampire chronicles. Here we follow Louis, a depressed, confused, lonely, but rich man who falls under the alluring spell of the mystical vampire Lestat. Upon surrendering his life, he did so to find answers, answers that unfortunately the vampires don¿t possess. Now it¿s even harder to end his life and he is horrified that he has lost his one chance of dying a natural cause. Better to keep living, but what can make living the afterlife worthwhile? Not blood, certainly. Not killing. His slow martyrdom forces Lestat into action and he creates another vampire, Claudia. There¿s only one problem, Claudia is five years old. As the years progress her body stays the same. What fate could be worse than living eternally inside the body of an infant? Perhaps she¿s going to find out. I love this book, the language is rich and sensual, the mood dark and mysterious. Anne Rice manages to write about something depressing and mundane, without the actual story being so. I strongly recommend this book, even though it isn¿t my favorite in the chronicles, it is still brilliant, both on its own and as a part of the whole.
