Krakauer skrev en artikkel i tidsskriftet han jobbet for om en ung loffer, som etter to år på loffen, angivelig tok turen ut i Alaskas brutale villmark. En villmark han aldri returnerte fra. Grunnet den store interessen for artikkelen, og hans egen facinasjon for McCandless, skrev forfatteren boken, Into the Wild. Historien til denne unge mannen er virkelig fascinerende. Han var en kraismatisk idealist, med en dragning mot verdens naturlige undere. Krakauer har møtt menneskene Chris møtte på sin reise, som varte i to år. Filmen, "Into the Wild", er også basert på denne boken. Sean Penn har laget et filmatisk mesterverk, der man tydelig føler hans fascinasjon for McCandless. En fascinasjon han fikk etter å ha lest denne boken. Boken vil jeg anbefale til alle som mener å ha en eventyrer i seg. Les historien om en som gjorde det mange drømmer om.
