– T.S. Anbefales.
Waste Land and Other Poems
April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain . . .
Published in 1922, The Waste Land was the most revolutionary poem of its time, offering a devastating vision of modern civilisation which has lost none of its power as we enter a new century.

Kundevurdering:
Two works stand like a portal to the modernistic literature in the western world. And along with Joyce's «Ulysses» stands TS Eliot's «The Wasteland». The book was first published in 1922. Since then Eliot has become one of the most analysed and researched poets of modern time. The poems are loaded with references to amongst other things: the bible, Dante, Wagner and Greek plays. Al the poems has a dark tone. And as a whole they portray a cruel world. And with the modernist's total lack of respect for system and other conventional effects in poetry, this comes out as a disturbing work. Eliot once said: "A new piece of art must always frighten people". And this one even have the potential to do it todayRasputin
