I middelalderen hadde magi vært fordrevet og fryktet, men nå ble magien forbundet med filosofi og religion. Bruno gikk i spissen for den magiske vekkelsen. Han støttet også Cusanus' idé om et uendelig univers. Yates mener Bruno ville skape en ny religion basert på magi, og at dette var hovedgrunnen til at han ble brent. Yates tese er at magiens renvaskelse førte til en mer aktiv holdning til skaperverket. Dette er en meget interessant bok om magiens rolle i en såkalt rasjonell verden. En viktig bok i idehistorien som burde interessere flere enn akademikere. Bruno fortjener mer oppmerksomhet!
