Om forfatteren

Rajiv Chandrasekaran is an assisting managing editor of the Washington Post, where he has worked since 1994. He previously served the Post as a bureau chief in Baghdad, Cairo and Southeast Asia, and as a correspondent covering the war in Afghanistan. He recently completed a term as journalist-in-residence at the International Reporting Project at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, and was a public policy scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center. He lives in Washington, D.C.

– Det er en blandet fornøyelse å lese bøker som denne. På den ene siden er det vondt å se hvordan ting går fra vondt til verre. På den andre siden er det lærerikt å se hvordan en dårlig planlagt krig fra myndighetenes side, i hendene på de som vil øke sin økonomiske eller politiske makt, har innvirkning på alle involverte. Da amerikanske styrker tok over Bagdad, etablerte de en "grønn sone", isolert fra resten av Irak, hvor Irak skulle administreres fra. Uten en overordnet plan, ble ofte feil folk satt til å gjøre feil jobber til feil tidspunkter. At en og annen republikansk unggutt fikk ta over en jobb kunne jo ikke være så farlig men det er interessant å se hvordan feilene snøballer seg og blir til en katastrofe. Det er faktisk tragikomisk når man leser denne boka at man ikke alltid vet om man skal grine eller le. Det er kanskje lett å være etterpåklok når man kan se seg tilbake, men uansett er det noe som må huskes for fremtiden: Tar man for lett på en krig, vil det kun føre med seg tap for alle sider.
