– När röda khemererna med Pol Pot i spetsen tog makten i Kambodja 1975 inleddes en regim som kom att bli en av 1900-talets brutalaste. Deras drygt 4 år vid makten innbar döden för uppemot 1,7 miljoner kambodjaner. Chanrithy Him växte upp under denna tid och ger här sin personliga berättelse om den mardröm som utspelade sig i Kambodja. Målet om att bygga en utopisk socialistisk dröm körde ner landet i botten och Chanrithy fick själv se nästan hela sin familj bli utplånad. When Broken Glass Floats är en mycket stark och personlig beskrivning av den kanske mörkaste tiden i Kambodjas historia, en beskrivning som rena faktaböcker om röda khemererna aldrig kunnat fånga.
