“This is a comprehensive textbook. The low-threshold exercises motivate students to apply the concepts presented and thus deepen their understanding. Particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of code examples that encourage re-coding and experimentation. Given the enormous importance of modelling and simulation in modern thermodynamics, the application-oriented inclusion of software tools offers real added value for (future) engineers.” - Andreas Mecklenfeld, TLK-Thermo
“This modern textbook contains a comprehensive and complete statement of the fundamental laws and all derivations of the relevant equations of thermodynamics, enabling the reader to completely grasp the theoretical foundations of this complex subject. It shows the historical context and development of thermodynamics and demonstrates how to use modern software tools in the scope of thermodynamics. The didactics of the book are excellent. Starting always from the fundamentals, the reader is guided precisely through the relevant laws and equations. For each topic, relevant worked examples are included, and at the end of the chapter, a series of well-elaborated problems are given. Furthermore, the reader is guided through worked case studies using Python and Maple to perform complex thermodynamic computations in the most effective way possible nowadays.” - Philipp Epple, Coburg University

Thermodynamics: Fundamentals and Applications offers a blend of theory and practical applications for a complete understanding of thermodynamics for various engineering applications. Beginning with a basic introduction and principles of thermodynamics, the book advances to more specialized topics like organic Rankine cycle, gas mixtures, equilibria and chemical reactions.
Les merThermodynamics: Fundamentals and Applications offers a blend of theory and practical applications for a complete understanding of thermodynamics for various engineering applications. Beginning with a basic introduction and principles of thermodynamics, the book advances to more specialized topics like organic Rankine cycle, gas mixtures, equilibria and chemical reactions.
Exploring the first law of thermodynamics, different types of energies and their practical applications in engineering devices, the text covers enthalpy, heat transfer and work interactions with a focus on macroscopic and microscopic perspectives. It introduces the second law of thermodynamics and entropy with an in-depth look at Carnot engines and absolute temperature scales. The book includes applied problems that are solved using COOLPROP, Tilmedia and MAPLE-ThermophysicalData packages.
The book is intended for senior undergraduate mechanical, aerospace and chemical engineering students taking courses in thermodynamics.
Instructors will be able to utilize a Solutions Manual, Figure Slides, and MAPLE codes for their courses.
