Praise for MAISIE DOBBS, Daily Mail

«Feisty, working-class heroine Maisie is a deliberate throwback to the sleuthettes of old-fashioned crime writing. The well-plotted story, its characters and the picture of London between the wars are decidedly romantic. American readers loved it; many Brits will, too.»

Guardian

«A terrific mystery ... Intriguing and full of suspense, it makes for an absorbing read»

Observer

«Even if detective stories aren't your thing, you'll love Maisie Dobbs»

«'Think Upstairs Downstairs meets Miss Marple - with a touch of chirpy cheerful Cockney from the Dick Van Dyke school'»

«'This award-winning author has added another action-packed, well-plotted mystery to her series. It moves at a cracking pace... Good twist ending - very Agatha Christie'»

– The Maisie Dobbs novels are all set in the 1920's and early 1930's, with the roots of each story set in the Great War, 1914-1918. Maisie Dobbs is a psychologist and private investigator. She began her working life at the age of thirteen as a servant in a Belgravia mansion, only to be discovered reading in the library by her employer, Lady Rowan Compton. This is the 6th novel in the series. The intrepid Maisie Dobbs, psychologist and private investigator, is walking through London on Christmas Eve, 1931, when a man she believes to be a shell-shocked veteran of World War I suddenly blows himself up, injuring Maisie and several other bystanders. This novel, in fact the entire series, are so full of drama and mystery, the plot is always thrilling and exciting, and the reader is hooked by the plot and characters within reading the first page! This book can be read separately from the others, but I do recommend you read them all, seeing as they are superb mystery and crime novels!
