Gramsci and Education demonstrates the relevance of Antonio Gramsci's thought for contemporary educational debates. The essays are written by scholars located in different parts of the world, a number of whom are well known internationally for their contributions to Gramscian scholarship and/or educational research. The collection deals with a broad range of topics, including schooling, adult education in general, popular education, workers' education, cultural studies, critical pedagogy, multicultural education, and the role of intellectuals in contemporary society.

Carmel Borg is senior lecturer and head of the Department of Primary Education at the University of Malta. Joseph Buttigieg is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Literature and a fellow of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Peter Mayo is associate professor in sociology of education and adult education at the University of Malta.
