I denne boken forklarer Adrian Wells hvordan metakognitiv terapi kan bidra i behandlingen av depresjon og angst. Metakognativt fokus er i korte trekk å terapautisk endre måten man forholder seg til ulike tanker på, heller enn å forsøke å endre selve tankene. Prinsippet forklares enkelt med et lite tankeeksperiment, hvor man blir bedt om å IKKE tenke på en rosa elafant. Jo hardere man deretter prøver, jo vanskeligere blir det. På samme måte er det vanskelig å ikke oppleve angst og depressive tanker. Wells sin terapi er derfor heller rettet mot tankene om tankene, og i denne boken presenteres modeller over hvordan disse tankene påvirker angst og depresjon, og hvordan de kan endres. Boka er veldig oversiktelig, og kan til tider sammenlignes med en kokebok. Spennende for de fleste, og et must for de psykologiinteresserte.
