– Jeg likte den ikke. Den hadde noen morsomme steder, og var over hele vittig gjennomskrevet. Men denne vittige tonen kunne også bli for mye, full av galle, liksom kynisk. Men det blir litt for "utmalt" hele veien igjennom. Skrivestilen kan bli noe slitsom. Det hele er noe gammelt. Det er likevel en god satire om sosial ulikhet og umenneskelighet i gamle Frankrike. Jeg sier vulgært - men sannheter er vel at den bare nakent viser fram hvor onde mennesker kan være mot hverandre, og hvor rått denne umenneskeligheten egentlig er, slik den utspiller seg overralt rundt oss. På den gode siden, er dette en kompakt, vittig dialog mellom forskjellige ulykkelige sjeler, drivende fortalt. Tror det kan være morsom lesning for mange.
