– Jeg ble helt sjokkert når jeg bladde opp i denne boken for første gang. I både 'Ringenes Herre' og spesielt 'Silmarillion' ble det snakket om 'The Lay of The Leithian'. Men at det skulle være over 4000 linjer langt, med rim, hadde jeg aldri trodd. Diktet tar for seg hele den fantastiske historien mellom Beren og Luthien, og er en del mer omfattende enn teksten man får i Silmarillion . I boken er det et dikt til, og det handler om Húrins barn. Her får man hele historien om Túrin til den minste detalj, noe mange fans garantert vil sette pris på. Det som må understrekes er at dette er ikke noe for hvem som helst. Man må nok være ganske Tolkien-frelst for å ha stor glede av 'Lays of Beleriand'. Engelsk-kunnskapene må være inntakt, for språket i boken er til tider ganske vanskelig engelsk.
