This book remains the leading textbook on social work with immigrants and refugees, and the only one to address legal and policy issues along with clinical skills. In this revision, it will be updated to reflect recent key policy changes that affect social work with immigrant and refugee populations.

Successful social work with immigrants and refugees must begin with an understanding of their legal status and how that status impacts their housing, employment, health care, education, and virtually every other aspect of life. This second edition has been fully revised and updated to reflect the latest developments in immigration law and policy at the state and federal level. This text remains the only book available to social workers that covers the legal aspects of immigrant issues as well as critical practice and advocacy issues. It offers completely new chapters on housing for immigrants and specific issues affecting refugee populations. The authors have also expanded their coverage of transnationalism, microaggressions, and public health and community health issues. Other topics covered include historical and current trends in immigration, applicable theories for practice with immigrants, policy and advocacy methods, and cultural competence. By providing comprehensive coverage of both the legal and practice issues of this complex field, this book helps social service students and professionals increase their cultural sensitivity and work more effectively with immigrants. It is an ideal text for courses on social work with immigrants and refugees and other advanced social work practice and policy courses.
