This classic school text book, first published in 1939, contains the essential 1000 commonest Greek words, ideal for students taking GCSE or A-level Greek. It provides an ideal format, comprehensive vocabulary with all the words that a beginning student of ancient Greek will need to know.
Its distinctive advantages are that, although alphabetically arranged, many words are set alongside synonyms, autonyms and English derivatives to help with memorisation and vocabulary building. Interrogative, Relative and Demonstrative Adverbs and Pronouns, Prepositions, Particles, Conjunctions and Numerals have been excluded from the main vocabulary and grouped together at the end of the book, where there is also a table of the Principal Parts or Irregular Verbs.
For students learning over two years, the commonest words are indicated with an asterisk so they can be mastered in the first year.
